It is a good tradition, that radio amateurs exchange so called "QSL cards" as written confirmation after a contact, especially for contacts over long distances and with stations in overseas ("DX-stations"). Radio amateurs holding confirmations for connections with at least 100 countries may apply for membership to the "DX century club" (DXCC), which is managed by the American Radio Relay League (ARRL).
The world of amateur radio consists of 338 countries according to the DXCC countries list. In addition to "normal" governments, some remote islands and extraterritorial areas (e.g. the UN in New York) count as country also.
For the time being, my QSL collection contains cards from 315 current countries:
